Hi, I’m Timothy Melbinger.
I am a musician who, like most musicians, wears several hats. I have been writing music since 1991, primarily “contemporary classical,” which is to say, in the great tradition of concert music, and for Western acoustic instruments. My approach has always been to write original music of uncompromising integrity; little sonic worlds that explore the human experience and approach beauty. I taught music in American universities for almost thirty years, and I still teach piano lessons from my home in Pennsylvania. I am finalizing a deal to have my first book published: The Rhythm of Rush - an analysis of the the musical element at which the Canadian rock trio was so skilled. A more detailed biography, for use in program notes, follows.
